Special Enrollment Period for the Affordable Care Act

The special enrollment period will begin on March 15, 2015 and end on April 30, 2015. For those who were unaware or didn’t understand the implications of the fee from not enrolling in coverage. You are eligible for this special enrollment period if:

  • You are currently not enrolled in coverage through the Federally-facilitated Marketplace 2015,

  • Attest that when you filed your 2014 tax return you paid the fee for not having health coverage in 2014, and

  • Attest that you first became aware of, or understood the implications of, the Shared Responsibility Payment after the end of open enrollment (February 15, 2015) in connection with preparing your 2014 taxes.

Little Dixie Community Action Agency is here to help you apply for coverage and assist with an application which may determine you as exempt from the fine. This service is free to the public.


The Rural Health Network of Oklahoma Teams with TMF Quality Innovation Network to Stop the Advance of Diabetes

“Health for Life” project is part of the national “Everyone with Diabetes Counts” initiative  to teach diabetes self-management classes in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico and Texas.

Hugo, OK – The Rural Health Network of Oklahoma is partnering with TMF Quality Innovation Network to promote diabetes awareness and motivate persons who have diabetes to sign up for a diabetes self-management education (DSME) class. The DSME classes teach patients about, and assist them with, setting goals for proper nutrition, physical activity, regular check-ups with their physicians, glucose monitoring and consistent medication use. The education campaign is called the Health for Life/Everyone with Diabetes Counts initiative.

2015 Open Enrollment Deadline is February 15

If you haven't enrolled in 2015 coverage by February 15, you generally can't buy Marketplace health coverage for 2015 unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

February 15, 2015: 2015 Open Enrollment ends. Enroll by this date and coverage can begin as soon as March 1. After this date, you can enroll in or change plans for 2015 only if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

If you don't enroll in 2015 coverage

If you don't have health coverage during 2015, you may have to pay a penalty. The fee in 2015 is higher than it was for 2014 - 2% of your income or $325 per adult/$162.50 per child, whichever is more.

Air, a professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, is more than familiar with what's known - and many of the unknowns - about the flu.

AARP Oklahoma Names McAlester Woman Volunteer State President

AARP Oklahoma has named business consultant, administrator and community leader Joe Ann Vermillion as its volunteer state president.

Vermillion, a longtime McAlester resident, heads a consulting firm that works with Oklahoma companies to identify skills necessary for employees to be successful.
